Fauna, Flora and Activities

Stay a few days at Der Lake, one of the largest bodies of water in Europe ; its also a nature reserve where you can watch grey cranes and many other migrating birds ("Ornithology" packages from November thru February), before penetrating the universe of the Bird and Fish House.
In Montier-en-Der, every year in mid-November, the "International Animal Photo Festival" will take you to another world and Haras National holds an open house (from September to November).
In the summer, this 4 800 ha reservoir also offers nautical auctivities like sailing, water skiing and swimming...
The four lakes in Langres Country also offer their Fishing spots : carp, pike and perch reign as masters... but don’t prevent other aquatic activities. Sports fishing tours also promise trout and common grayling.
As the water flows, the Marne to Saône Canal ("From Champagne to Burgundy" will change the rhythm of your life for a pleasure boat trip or a bicycle ride along the towing-path. The Meuse, Marne and Aube rivers all begin on Langres Plateau.

  Autumnal pleasures in Haute Marne...

Just a few kilometers away, the most sporting among you may exercise in the wild, on various obstacles in the trees (Accro-Der in Giffaumont, Sensation Nature in ST Geosmes) or a highly technical round of golf at Arc-en-Barrois.
On the calmer side, as a family activity, our region will guide you through the Chalmessin chalk marshes ; towards the
Vingeanne gorges or the petrifying waterfalls at Rolampont and Rouvres-sur-Aube. Orchids symbolize our Department’s
natural riches where we boast of 40 different species of this delicate flower : Lady orchid, Lady’s slipper...
With 250,000 ha of forest, the Department has a significant deer, roe-dear and boar population and is among one of the most renowned regions for hunting and animal-watching.
In the autumn, the rutting period, the deer’s braying is impressive. At the end of August, don’t miss the "Hunting and Nature Pleasure Salon".
Nearly 1,500 km of marked routes are available : Hiking on foot, on horseback, VTT, bikes or even in a caravan !
Some package deals with lodging and baggage transportation are offered. Motor tours in 4x4 at the forefront during the "Green Adventure" rally (early September).
